Dozens of U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers reported sudden hearing strange sounds followed by genuine, lasting brain injuries — and a U.S. intelligence assessment and outside medical panels still disagree about whether it was a directed-energy attack or something else entirely.
Havana Syndrome refers to a cluster of unexplained health incidents first reported by U.S. diplomatic and intelligence personnel in Havana, Cuba beginning in 2016, involving sudden onset of specific symptoms following unusual sounds, with some affected individuals showing genuine, medically documented brain injury. Despite extensive government and independent medical investigation, no single definitive cause has been conclusively established, with directed-energy weapon and mass psychogenic illness explanations both remaining seriously considered.
