Millions of people believe those white streaks behind airplanes are secret chemical spraying operations — and atmospheric scientists have spent over two decades explaining, in exhaustive technical detail, that they're just frozen water vapor.

The chemtrail conspiracy theory claims that visible trails left by high-altitude aircraft are evidence of a secret government or corporate program deliberately spraying chemical or biological agents into the atmosphere, rather than ordinary condensation trails (contrails) formed by water vapor.
