A real Oxford philosopher published a formal mathematical argument that we're probably living inside a computer simulation — and tech billionaires have taken it seriously enough to say so publicly.

Simulation theory proposes that reality as we experience it is an artificial simulation, most likely run by a technologically advanced future civilization. Philosopher Nick Bostrom formalized the argument in a 2003 academic paper, and it has since been publicly embraced by prominent figures in the tech industry, without any way to empirically test the claim.
