In 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his entire family at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. When the Lutz family moved in a year later, they claimed to be driven out within 28 days by extreme paranormal phenomena, a story that became a bestselling book and film franchise — despite the Lutzes' own former lawyer later stating the haunting was invented.
