The Betty and Barney Hill Abduction

In 1961, a New Hampshire couple described a star map under hypnosis — an amateur astronomer later argued it eerily matched a real, then-obscure star system.

In September 1961, Betty and Barney Hill reported a close encounter with an unidentified craft and two hours of missing time while driving through rural New Hampshire. Under hypnosis two years later, Betty described a star map shown to her aboard the craft — a map an amateur astronomer would later argue closely matched the real Zeta Reticuli star system.
